the month of Ramadan is upon us Alhamdulilah and it’s the best month actualise the benefit of discipline and how it can change your life around.
What is discipline?
Discipline (or better said as self-discipline) is the ability to control and regulate you own behavior, actions and decisions in order to achieve goals.
This is what discipline is, hence it is the best weapon against procrastination and its vices.
Why does Ramadan and discipline go well together?
Refraining from food and water
We all love food to some degree, hence abstaining from what we need the most allows us to focus on what is greater and rely on what is greater. Which is Allah.
Additionally, discipline can come in the form in doing things our nafs doesn’t want to do but we do since, the greater aspect of it with its benefits outweights the temporary gain.
Extended prayers
During the month of Ramadan, we tend to prayer taraweeh/tahajjud with our waajib Salaah. During this time, we make sure to stand for long periods of time contemplating on the words of Allah for us to gain his love and mercy.
This is also a form of discipline as we opt for the greater good of praying in salaah with the right intentions rather than spending the night watching TV or eating.
Khatm of the Qur’an
These are one of the great ways to get closer to the qur’an by completing the qur’an either reading or off memory to gain reward and contemplate on the qur’an. You will find that the qur’an is truly a great book, a guide for all aspects of life. Hence it is super important that we focus on the qur’an during Ramadan so that we gain wisdom from Allah’s words.
I felt that doing this truly builds self-discipline as we make sure we spend time in reading the qur’an from our busy schedules.
Not following our lusts
During Ramadan, for married people, having intimacy during fasting isn’t permitted hence a one of the greatest tests of a fasting person is to abstain from following his/her lusts.
Even as a non-married person, constantly abstaining from wandering your eyes, watching haraam stuff. This is truly self-discipline as we abstain from what our carnal desires yearn for the sake of Allah.
